HTM stands as Nepal’s premier international travel and tourism trade show, fostering extensive networking opportunities, business prospects, and invaluable industry insights among global tourism and hospitality organizations, as well as individuals engaged in various aspects of tourism within the Himalayan region. On June 5th, 2024, a full-day conference will convene to deliberate on the major issues surrounding current and future developments in global tourism amidst uncertainties and the escalating impacts of climate change.

The Meaningful Tourism Award, now in its third iteration, is organized by the Meaningful Tourism Centre, founded by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Georg Arlt in 2021 and based in Hamburg, Germany. In 2022, the Award received support from Berlin Tourism and was celebrated during ITB Asia in Singapore, while last year, QTM Qatar Travel Mart hosted the Meaningful Tourism Award 2023. The 2024 edition of the Award will feature six categories aligned with the six stakeholders of the Meaningful Tourism paradigm (Guests, Hosts, Employees, Companies, Governments, and Environment), each offering Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards, totaling 18 awards for activities in line with the principles of Meaningful Tourism. The application process is open to all private and public hospitality and tourism service providers worldwide, and there is no fee for submission.

All applications will undergo evaluation by an international jury of experts. HTM is organized by the PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) Nepal Chapter, the highly active national organization for Nepal within PATA, headquartered in Bangkok. Nepal has been chosen as the ideal location for the Meaningful Tourism Award ceremony, given its myriad opportunities for sustainable tourism development and the potential to avoid the pitfalls that many other destinations have unfortunately encountered. A focus on offering quality experiences with benefits for all stakeholders, rather than fixating solely on arrival numbers, is the optimal approach for a country teeming with friendly, warm-hearted, and hospitable people from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
